Life... what is 'life'? This is a question that was asked yesterday, is being asked today and will be asked tomorrow. And there are as many answers to it as there are people. A lot of people have expressed their opinions about his query and here I am, making one such attempt.
says the essayist John Ruskin, and there is an unlimited source of truth in his statement. We have always found many a person complaining of his endless struggles and worries and of late, the rate of suicide has been high. Life now-a-days, is thought of as a never-ending combat of miseries, but the right attitude of man shows when he tries to tackle and overcome every problem he faces. If one wants to tackle one’s problems and succeed in his life, he has to necessarily possess or cultivate the three gems of character: Self –confidence, Discipline and Hard work. These will surely lead him to the victory he has been dreaming of for so long.
First in the list is self-confidence. This is the first essential step that one has to take to reach his goal. If man gets into the perilous arena of self-pity and starts playing the balancing game, he is bound to fail, the reason being himself, though he will find someone else to hang that shirt on too. An important ingredient of self-confidence is optimism. It is the state of mind where one believes that, ‘Come what may, nothing can stop me from going on and all that happens is only for good’. It is the ray of hope that helps mankind sustain on Earth. When there is optimism the courage of conviction is born.
Courage of conviction, along with the next gem Discipline, takes one higher and higher on the ladder of success. Discipline can be said to be the overcoming of various external factors that tempt one to digress from the path of honesty and uprightness. It helps one get the focus, which will automatically open up an avenue and one can overcome all stumbling blocks and hurdles.
Once these two qualities are in place, one should not be forbidden from tasting the fruit of success for want of effort. There should be a tremendous amount of work put in and one should go all-out to achieve the success he craved for.
The above said three guiding principles will undoubtedly lead one to the pinnacle of success. Moreover, it is the path to victory more than the destination that gives man boundless happiness and all the enjoyment.
But once when all these have been understood by man, he will certainly agree that life is to be enjoyed. There will be a lot of tiring exercises, losses, defeats and other discouraging factors to pull one down, but the real test lies in taking all this in the stride and enjoying every moment we live, keeping in mind what Thomas Jefferson has said:
“The Earth belongs to the living, and not to the dead.”
